Definition

Physical literacy may be understood as the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge, and understanding to value and the responsibility for engagement in physical activities throughout an individual’s life.

Physical literacy can be described as the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life. (IPLA, 2017)

The Greek translation for the English term "Physical Literacy" is κινητικός γραμματισμός rendered as such to avoid confusion with local conceptions of physical/early/emerging literacy in early school age. However, other terms are also used at times σωματικός γραμματισμός ή/και ως φυσικός γραμματισμός. For more information on physical literacy, please visit the official website of International Physical Literacy Association, and take a look at the IPLA video Active for Life as well as to the attached brochure.
